The 291 feulie heads were fair performance heads 35 years ago. But chances are
that they`ve been machined a couple times ( at least )m, had a few valve jobs
etc...so to salvage them into anything useable is very expensive. Even a decent
set isn`t worth much nowadays because off the shelf Vortec truck heads flow
more, and make a ton more HP and torque for $450 brand new,. It would cost you
that much to ,make these old heads work half as good. The 291 heads often
didn;t have accessory holes on them. They were common on 327 Impala`s, camaros,
some corvettes. Used on the 250hp motors mosty. That was 250 in the OLD
measure. That same 1968 250 hp motor makes about 175 under the new standards.
So a 250 2004 motor makes a LOT more power that a 1968 250 hp motor. The new
vortec heads will easily support 400 hp. You`d have to spend a fortune on those
old 291 heads to get even close. Take `em if you have no hope of ever getting
your cash. Old heads are better than nothing.

I`m looking at an 86 convt with 116,000 miles, it definitely needs new
paint, carpet, ragtop, weather-strips, antennae, gear on one headlight, tank
drained and new battery, due to being left sitting for almost a year.
The body itself is in good shape and it has an aero package with front dam,
side skirts, and rear fin about 3 inches high.
If the motor and drive train are in working order, what would a rough guess
at the price be?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Easier to work backward on this on...
I personally have no problem with the miles...
But I can see you writing a few big checks for the paint (3-5K)
The top will set you back only a few hundred...but installation
another 3 hundred... The carpet I honestly can`t remember the prices
for weatherstripping is (double ouch honestly) ...
I think you are looking at at least 6K for cosmetic repairs..
In other words under 5 K is about all I would be willing to pay...
